Our early beginings
The Venturing program was introduced by the Boy Scouts of America in 1998. With the Exploring program being reorganized and split into two programs, Venturing would focus on outdoor-oriented activities.
The wife of Troop 101’s Scoutmaster, Sandra Potjunas, took an interest in the Venturing program, and attended the trainings necessary to get a Crew started.
In the fall of 2000, Leaders organized meetings to discuss forming Crew 101. After several kickoff meetings, Crew 101 was formed and we held our first recruiting night in September.
On October 11, 2000 the first crew meeting took place. The youth organized and elected the crew leadership and determined the direction the crew would take.
Over the next few years, the Crew would participate in Climbing days at Kendall Cliffs, Ice Skating at Mill Creek Park, Overnight outings, Whitewater trips, Ski Trips, Biking, Backpacking, Rappelling, and more.
In 2005, adult participation in Crew activities waned, and the crew was forced to suspend activities.
Since 2005, there have been a couple attempts at restarting the crew. In 2024, an Eagle Scout in Troop 101 was able to earn Venturing’s Highest honor, as a Summit Award recipient. This spiked massive interest in restarting Crew 101, and the crew officially reformed in December.
